Way back in 2011 I was wholly privileged to accompany journalist Matthew Denholm to incredible Macquarie Island for the Weekend Australian Magazine to do a story on the program to eradicate the sub-Antarctic island of feral animals. We spent two amazing days accompanying hunter and dog handler Gary Bowcock and his dogs Joker (spaniel) and Temma.
Now, Gary and his dogs have been immortalised in an Australia Post stamp series called The Dogs that Saved Macquarie Island.
That’s my image of Gary and the two dogs battling a fierce blizzard on the Island’s east coast.
I’d go back in a heart beat. What an incredible place!
