A little about me and my work…

I’m a writer and photographer with a passion for story-telling through words and images. In both mediums I focus on people, travel, food and wine, design, sustainability, the environment, and all things Tasmanian.

At some point during 2007, while living in Sydney, I realised I was boring a lot of friends, by banging on about Tasmania. It hit me then that if I loved Tassie so much, then I should go home and live there? Seems that I could be taken out of Tasmania, but Tasmania couldn’t be taken out of me! I haven’t looked back…

Since then, I’ve been lucky enough to get to know Tasmania and Tasmanians like I’d never imagined. I’m continually inspired by the island and its people, and there’s no shortage of subjects for articles and photography. I try to focus on work that aligns with my values, and luckily in Tasmania, the alignment is easy.

Exploring our own and other cultures is endlessly fascinating to me and I love being able to do it through my work. While I am now back home in Tasmania, I have worked nationally and internationally at different points in my career. I have a long abiding interest in Asia and bringing Asian stories to an Australian audience is a great privilege.

I approach my work with a keen sense of observation and inquiry. Collaboration is my ideal and I endeavour to work closely with clients, whether it’s a photoshoot at the local farmer’s market or a words and photography commission from a major magazine. Looking for the subtleties, details and moments that make an assignment memorable are real drivers for me.

I bring 30 years of media experience to my assignments, but maintain an enthusiastic fresh approach, always trying to see images and writing from different angles. Meeting and, hopefully, exceeding a brief is my goal, and if we can have a laugh along the way, my job is done.
